South Windermere is a quiet neighborhood to the west of The Crescent. It used to be part of a public recreational area called The Pleasure Grove. It was established in the 1930s but the mostly brick ranch-style homes were built in the 1950s. They are priced in the mid-range unless they are on the waterways or marshes.
Some of the waterfront properties overlook the Wappoo and Coburg Creeks and these homes tend to be larger and more expensive. But, because of the diverse range of prices, and tranquil surroundings buying into South Windermere is popular.
The schools for the neighborhood are St. Andrew's Elementary, West Ashley Middle School and West Ashley High School.
The community is only a half-mile away from the Wappoo Cut Boat Ramp which is used to go to Charleston Harbor. South Windermere Center, the library, and the West Ashley Greenway are easily within walking distance.
There is a lot to see and do in South Winder mere. If you enjoy history, it is close to many historic sites. For example, the McCloud Plantation Historic Site or the Wappoo/The Bluff Plantation.
For a family, South Windermere has it all. Charleston via Highway 17 is just over the river, and it’s a short drive to Folly Beach.
