Historic Hampton Park Terrace on the Charleston peninsula has its own vivid character. Unlike other parts of Charleston, the real estate in Hampton Park Terrace consists of mostly early 20th-century homes.
The neighborhood was established in the early part of the twentieth century initially by three developers in rural Charleston. One of them, the Allen Family named one of the smallest parks in Charleston, the Allen Park. The developments were predicted to fail. However, the lots quickly sold.
Life In Hampton Park Terrace
Perfectly located, this friendly community is bordered in the north by Hampton Park, and in the south by Congress Street. It stretches in the west to The Citadel, and in the east to Rutledge Ave. In 1997, Hampton Park Terrace was declared a National Register District because of the fine examples of foursquare, bungalow, lateral-gable, and front-gable homes.
Just like the houses, there is a wide variety of residents. Mostly young couples without children, there are also young singles and a few young families. The neighborhood has a high walk score because anything you could want is close by. Great schools and good local food are all within walking distance.
A wonderful way to end your day here is strolling in beautiful Hampton Park, listening to the taps played by Citadel cadets fade away in the dusk…
