Pitt Street Pharmacy
In 1937, Dr. Wattie Zeigler opened Pitt Street Pharmacy in Old Village, where he made and filled prescriptions one at a time and all by hand. 57 years later, there are few differences. Today Pitt Street Pharmacy still offers the creation of medicines and their soda fountain.
Pitt Street Pharmacy has kept up with the older practices with the compounding-only methods. Unlike a traditional pharmacy, Pitt Street makes almost every prescription and item sold. Each prescription is formulated with you in mind to help you feel better! Another popular feature of the pharmacy is the soda fountain. Soda fountains have started to disappear over the years, but Pitt Street has become a local favorite. You can pop in to get egg salad or pimento cheese sandwich or wash it all down with a classic coca-Cola in a glass bottle. You may even notice the outside of the building to be familiar, which has been featured in many Hollywood hits like, The Ripping, The Notebook and more recently Outer Banks.
Post House Inn
If you’re looking for a place to stay to fully experience the Old Village life, then the newly opened Post House Inn will be your dream come true. From the creators of simple, ingredient-focused Basic Kitchen, comes the coastal tavern and inn located in the heart of the Old Village.
The three-story Post House Inn is considered a “restaurant with rooms above”, with seven cozy rooms perfect for the staycation and travelers alike. The location makes it an ideal destination for those who want to see Downtown Charleston but hide away from all the hustle and bustle that comes with downtown living. The restaurant on the first floor is available to both guests and locals, serving seasonal local fare and classic cocktails. Then when the restaurant closes, guests can wander upstairs back to their one-of-a-kind rooms, where you’ll find minibar items that are all chock-full of Charleston favorites. You can start every morning off with the complimentary breakfast out on the covered side patio, or find yourself in one of the window nooks at the back of the dining room.
Leeah’s Old Village Wine Shop
Leeah’s Old Village Wine Shop was created to combine the wine and beer community while enjoying the charm of the Old Village District. Ebony and Kym are the owners of this quaint little wine bar, having successfully opened in the middle of the pandemic in 2020.
Ebony graduated from San Diego State University’s wine education program and then pursued a career with the navy while also working at an urban winery close to her home. She never gave up her dream of one day being able to retire and own a “cute little wine shop in Mexico”. However, after a death in the family, she decided to start her dream then and came across the Old Village spot with her partner, Kym. Kym and Ebony renovated the shop to hold 25 guests to offer private tastings, a small tapas menu, and become a designated food truck host. Together they have taken their love of philanthropy and community and brought it to the Lowcountry. They love the Old Village area because the locals have opened them with arms open wide and have continued to support them as they grow.
